Drawings by Rob Elliott |
Upon visiting Shanghai in 2009, Rob Elliott was immediately impressed by the way traffic flowed. Cars, scooters, trikes, bicycles and pedestrians weaved through the packed city streets with little regard for signals or rules.
Elliott took hundreds of traffic photos with a plan to do something with the images at a later date. SHANGHAI SCOOTERS is the resulting project, 20 gouache and ink drawings of the city’s vehicles and their riders.

Niagara Hermitage |
presented by the Swizzle Foundation |
Rob Elliott and Christine Cosby have cast themselves as beneficent trustees of the fictional Swizzle Foundation. Transforming the single stall flea market booth into a European-style art museum, their installation features many of the physical attributes of St. Petersburg’s famous Hermitage Gallery – gilded frames, damask wall treatments, salon-style hanging – as well as such modern public museum fixtures as a recorded audio tour and security cameras.
A project with the Niagara Artists Centre.

Remnants |
14 works on paper by Rob Elliott |
These works bring to mind the children's advertising and educational reading materials of the early 1970s. The images are reminiscent of old confectionary ads and elementary school primers, and engage the viewer with their sinister humour and a playful sense of wit.
Some works were previously exhibited at Artguise under the show title Primer.

Fake ID |
a participatory installation for Nuit Blanche |
From dusk until dawn on October 4, 2008, an oversized drivers license was spotlit in Trinity Bellwoods Park. Hundreds of people had a friend take their photo in front of the licenses. Swizzle staffers offered instruction cards for making their own fake ID card from their digital photographs.
