1. Small Feats at NAC

Christine Cosby Rob Elliott Small Feats

Pigeon on Ledge (Christine Cosby), White Knight (Rob Elliott), Devil Rejects (Rob Elliott)

Christine Cosby and Rob Elliott have created three works especially for the Niagara Artists Centre's Small Feats fundraiser.

Small Feats features over 100 pieces of art by NAC members, each one 12" by 12". Each work on display at NAC on Saturday 2 April will be sold at the bargain basement price of $200 per square foot with at least half of all proceeds going to NAC.

Is it worth the drive to St. Catharines? Consider that the roster of nationally and locally respected artists include the cartoonist Seth, photographer Denis Cahill, Brock professor Duncan MacDonald, sculptor Sean Whalley, painter Melanie MacDonald, and Welland-born conceptual artist Kelly Mark.

Preview the art here: http://www.nac.org/programs/special-events.html

Like any NAC opening, it will be a good party as well as an art event. Guests will be served delicious tapas and canapés prepared by The Office Tap & Grill, fine Niagara wines by Creek Side, Henry of Pelham, and Megalomaniac along with Steam Whistle pilsner.

It’s an opportunity to own an original art work at an affordable price—something that you’ll enjoy for a long time—while supporting both NAC and our artist members,” says NAC's Steve Remus, “We expect a bit of a frenzy, so we’re encouraging people to come early. You’ll likely want to stay late too.”

2. And Also Sharks book launch

Rob Elliott still from And Also Sharks animated promotional film

To promote her new collection of short stories, And Also Sharks, author Jessica Westhead asked three artists (Aaron Leighton, Evan Munday, and Rob Elliott) to create artwork for a short animated film. Each artist illustrated scenes from one her stories, which were then animated by Mike White.

The short film will be unveiled at the book launch at the Toronto Underground Cinema. The launch will also feature a reading by Westhead, silent shark films and a bar.

3. Shanghai Scooters coming this summer

Rob Elliott will debut a new suite of drawings this summer at the Niagara Artists Centre. Based on photos taken in Shanghai two summers ago, the series will look at how a two-wheeled city functions. Scooters and bicycles are used as true machines, functioning as salvage haulers, family vehicles and even improvisational furniture.
