1. Shanghai Scooters: All-new Rob Elliott drawing exhibition

Christine Cosby Rob Elliott Small Feats

Upon visiting Shanghai in 2009, I was immediately impressed by the way traffic flowed. Cars, scooters, trikes, bicycles and pedestrians weaved through the packed city streets with little regard for signals or rules. Yet everyone seemed to get where they were going in one piece.

I was also fascinated with how scooters and bicycles were used as real machines: carrying massive loads of recycling, delivering precarious towers of goods, or ferrying an entire family.

I took hundreds of traffic photos with a plan to do something with the images at a later date. SHANGHAI SCOOTERS is the resulting project, 20 gouache and ink drawings of the city’s vehicles and their riders.

2. Shanghai Scooters catalogue for sale

I have started to produce exhibition catalogues through the online book-printing company Blurb. I initially made the books for my own portfolio and archiving purposes, but the 7"X7" format has proven popular with fans of my work as well. My exhibitions tend to tie together as a greater whole, and the catalogues give the opportunity to experience the shows in their entirety.

I have opted for high quality paper and other premium options when selecting how the books will be sold. While this results in a higher price, there is marked difference in quality.
The catalogues are available in both softcover and hardcover formats.

3. Shanghai Scooters poster

To publicize the new exhibition, I designed a large screenprinted poster to be pasted around St. Catharines. I have reserved a limited number of the posters for sale to collectors. With a colour scheme inspired by Chinese propaganda posters, these two-colour posters are printed on 18"x24" manila paper. Printed by Toronto esteemed Merchguy studio.

Posters are $20 each, plus $10 shipping and handling. (S&H remains $10 if you order multiple copies, as it's the mailing tube that Canada Post charges so much for).
Posters will also be sold at NAC for the duration of the exhibition.

Purchase enquiries? Send an email to studio@swizzle.ca and we will respond to you within 24 hours.
